The Flower Fairies Celebrate Spring!

When Lorna and I sat down to think about our fairies, one of the most important elements was for them to be universal and modern — reflecting the world we live in today.

The Flower Fairies are a classic theme in fairy legend and we wanted to make them as bright and lovely as the flowers that light up our world each spring!

Find Faedom at most good bookshops across the UK and Europe, with limited distribution in the US (but fairy fingers crossed for a US edition soon!)

Happy Spring! 🌸

School Reading Christmas List

“The problem with picking a children’s book for a Christmas present is that once the words start to be read, the Christmas moment has invariably passed. So, instead of holiday-themed books, I’ve put together a list of titles to inspire awe and wonder.”

“Faedom immerses readers richly illustrated exploration of fairy mythology, drawing from global myths and folklore to present a detailed account of these magical beings.”

LoveReading4Kids on Faedom

“A wow of a book, and most definitely one for those who love fantasy, myths, legends, and folktales, delight in the world of the fae, and believe in fairies! It’s a large book, each page popping with vibrancy, and there a lovely additions such as the pull out Fairy Spotting Map! While this has been written for adults and young adults, younger children I’m sure, would love to be guided through the illustrations and information about the different fairies.”

“Breathtaking in its vibrancy, Faedom is as beautiful as it is fascinating and comes as highly recommended by our team.”

Every LoveReading book helps support school libraries.

Understanding Adolescence in PW

Publishers Weekly, September 5, 2024

This article highlights the rising trend for candid books on growing up and all the changes & feelings that come with it. I am so happy to see Understanding Adolescence: A Body-positive Guide to Puberty included. I translated the two-book series from the Polish last year and it’s coming out this November in the US & select UK bookshops.

“What surfaced repeatedly were editors and authors’ passionate beliefs that today’s readers deserve books on these topics that are honest, inclusive, and accurate. Their commitment to publishing such titles is unflinching, despite the possibility of backlash or censorship,” writes Sally Hodge.

In celebration of International Fairy Day, here is a sneak peek at one of the gorgeous (pre-colour) sketches for Faedom made by illustrator Nadzeya Makeyeva. Presenting Skylar, the Rainbow Fairy, one of 24 vibrant fae personalities revealed in this book.

Inspired by the age-old myths that have long insisted that fairies are very much real, this book draws upon the great store of cultural and literary references from around the world to create a comprehensive compendium of these fascinating creatures by Agnes Monod-Gayraud & Lorna White.

Impossible Inventions. Ideas that Shouldn't Work by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielniski, translated by Agnes Monod-Gayraud

Impossible Inventions

Gecko Press 2017

Impossible Inventions is a fabulous non-fiction book that explores inventions which are sometimes crazy, sometimes inspired and sometimes just plain weird, but what they have in common is that they all failed. The point is that they are all somewhere on the path to real discovery and invention, even if the road is rather long and winding.’ – Minerva Reads

Captains of Illustration

Adam Mickiewicz Institute & Dwie Siostry Publishing 2019

‘An album that encapsulates 100 years of Polish children’s book illustrations through 100 alphabetical entries. It gives readers a vast outlook on the field itself (and its many achievements since 1918), while outlining the subject areas and themes appearing within the illustrations, artistic techniques and stylistic tendencies.’ – Print Control

The Beast in My Belly

Enchanted Lion Books 2015

‘Kasdepke’s deadpan text is fluidly translated by Monod-Gayraud, unfurling with a quiet irony that will elicit chuckles from both adults and children. After the beast leads the little girl to the fridge for a midnight snack, “I discovered what a greedy beast it was! It wouldn’t go back to sleep until it had eaten not one, not two, not three, but four sausages!”’
– Kirkus Reviews

‘Thanks to fabulously discerning, award-winning indie press Enchanted Lion Books, prolific Polish author Grzegorz Kasdepke makes a delightfully whimsical Stateside debut-in-translation. Artist Tomek Kozłowski charms Kasdepke’s playfully beastly tale with ingenuity (he turns an illustration on its side to show the impossible is possible), movement (he uses double images to capture separate conversations with a squirrel and birds in a single sentence), and so much humor (you’ll have to giggle over all that for yourself).’ – Book Dragon
