In my translation and storytelling session, we explore the links between scientific fact and the magic of storytelling. We talk about the roles that storytelling and language play to engage others in learning and communication. I bridge the gap between my many roles as writer, translator and editor, between fiction and non-fiction, to relay how important imagination is not only to creating a wonderful work of fiction, but also to devising innovative ideas in other fields, including science. We talk about why reading other stories from around the world is important.

The school visit can include a translation workshop: a simple exercise in translating a short text from an abridged version of LE PETIT PRINCE by A. de Saint-Exupéry. I translated the most recent edition published by Hachette Children’s UK in October 2026 and have led this workshop for students at several international schools, including Ecole Jeanine Manuel in Paris and Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in London, with positive results and a great deal of enthusiasm. Even for groups that are not fluent in French, we can use the imagery and our intuition to come up with different ways of “interpreting” the content on the page.

In my nature poetry session, we draw on the fact and folklore of my latest book, BRILLIANT SUN, LUMINOUS MOON.

We start with some key questions: What are the most incredible facts about the Sun, Moon and the Solar System? How did we measure time before we had clocks and calendars? Why is the Sun so important to life on Earth? How does the Moon “help” Earth? At the end, I lead a poetry workshop inspired by the poems and ideas in the book. Each pupil takes some of the natural and magical ideas about the Sun and the Moon to create a poem and illustrate it if they wish.

I am a writer, translator, editor, former teacher and winner of the 2017 Educational Writers’ Award from the UK’s Society of Authors for my translation of THE BOOK OF BEES. In my school and library presentations, my focus on the intersection of science, humanities, arts, folklore and fantasy. I also work as a language editor for the Astronomy & Astrophysics academic journal, based at the Paris Observatory. In over a decade of translating books, I have published over 20 books. I debuted as a writer in 2024 with FAEDOM, a compendium of earth science and fairy lore. My next non-fiction book BRILLIANT SUN, LUMINOUS MOON is out in the US and UK in September 2026 by Post Wave Books (and 7+ other territories).
